A faceplate is a lathe chuck with individually adjustable clamping jaws for holding and machining irregularly shaped workpieces. It should be noted, however, that because of the high centrifugal forces from the eccentric center of gravity, this type of machining is done only at low rotation speeds. Manually adjusting workpieces on a faceplate is very time-consuming and must be done very carefully.
