Solarlux, in Melle, Lower Saxony, manufactures construction elements and is the world market leader for folding glass doors like those used for VIP lounges in sports stadiums or modern office buildings. Founded in 1983, the company exports its products to over 60 countries, including the USA, the Netherlands, and England. Renowned architects like Daniel Libeskind also use Solarlux glass construction elements for their projects.
The KNUTH X.mill 400 CNC machining center has been used for mold construction and prototypes since 2020. Its compact design, easy-to-use Siemens controller, and powerful machining with good accuracy immediately sold the milling center. And everything was confirmed in advance with the expert consultants at KNUTH.
“Test runs let us determine whether the machine was the right product for us,” says Uwe Wechsel, Head of Mold Construction at Solarlux. “We saw how well it worked.” On the day it was delivered, the X.mill 400 was installed and set up by a KNUTH assembler, ready for use.
“We received an introduction and training right there on-site, because we weren’t CNC experts,” which Wechsel cites as an important service factor. Another valuable part of the deal: “Now when we need additional training or maintenance – all it takes is one call, an appointment is scheduled, the KNUTH people come and work effectively and efficiently with everyone together.”
“Given Solarlux’s needs, the X.mill 400 is the perfect introduction to automated milling,” explains Tobias Hamann, KNUTH West Field Service Specialist. Its intuitive operability allows the user to write programs rapidly on his own. “It works effectively with just a few steps: switch it on, drop the part in, start cutting,” says Hamann.
